Financial Inclusion of Excluded Tribal Communities
In 2012, CTRD (Centre for Tribal and Rural Development) and the microPension-VISA Lab launched a multiple-year financial literacy and micro-pension inclusion initiative targeting three tribal communities. Two fully equipped financial counseling centers were set up in the Nilgiris Mountain area in Southern India to educate community leaders about the importance of retirement planning and key financial concepts using innovative financial literacy tools developed with VISA, NABARD and KfW.
Financial and Social Security Inclusion for Truckers
In early 2013, the microPension-VISA Lab designed a sustainable and scalable mechanism to educate and enroll the trucking community for an integrated Micro-Pension program. A fully equipped financial literacy centre was established on a pilot basis at the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar outside Delhi. The Lab appointed trained and certified micro-pension counselors at the Financial Literacy Centre. Financial literacy group meetings covering important financial concepts were conducted for all members of the Trucking Community - truck drivers, cleaners, mechanics and other informal sector workers indirectly engaged in the transport business.
